Deregulation

This refers to reducing or eliminating government controls within a marketplace.

In the UK/US, sectors which have seen significant deregulation include financial services, airlines and utilities. Deregulation may accompany the privatisation of previously state owned services or be applied where it is felt market forces will provide improved incentives for competition and improved customer value. Opponents of deregulation typically cite social risks such as exclusion or reduced consumer/employee protection.

Deregulation is a term normally found in business economics and financial management.
