This refers to the transfer of private sector business to the public sector.

Nationalisationpresumes the free market cannot provide goods and services which are considered critical for society (for example railways, energy production, banks, healthcare) in a fair and equitable manner. Perceptions over what those goods and services are typically change over time and as political views change.
