*Gleischer Formula*

The framework that looks at the conditions for change to occur is the Gleischer Formula. This “mathematical” formula appears as follows:

**A x B x C > D**

Where:

**A**is the sense of dissatisfaction that people feel with the way things are right now**B**is the Vision that they have for the way that things could be**C**is the Clarity with which they see the first steps to achieving their vision and**D**is the “cost” involved.

As a quasi-mathematical formula the rules of mathematics apply. Specifically if you multiply any number by zero then the answer you get is zero. Hence if any of the factors on the left side of the equation are set at zero the whole of the left side will be zero and no change will occur!

**Transition Curve**

Research into the impact of the most traumatic personal changes, predominantly bereavement, has given us a seven-stage model to understand the course of such changes. This model can prove equally helpful when looking at the effect of major organisational change on the people involved.

Here we provide a description of the stages of transition, some guidance for you about what people around you are going through and an indication of how to support them through change. You as managers are probably experiencing concerns and going through your own personal transition at the same time, so the model will provide some insight into your own state of mind.

Making the change stick means getting everyone you have responsibility for through the journey including yourself.
